South African Rand

The South African rand (sign: R; code: ZAR[a]) is the official currency of South Africa. It is also accepted as tender in Namibia, Lesotho and Eswatini alongside their local currencies. The rand is subdivided into 100 cents (sign: "c") and is commonly used in denominations of R 10, R 20, R 50, R 100, R 200 bills and 10c, 20c, 50c, R 1, R 2, R 5 and Krugerrand coins. The rand was introduced in 1961 shortly before the country declared itself a republic.
