When was the first telephone pager patented?

Answer: 1949

The telephone pager was patented by Canadian-born American engineer, Al Gross, and first used by New York City's Jewish Hospital in 1949. Gross also patented his own version of the "walkie-talkie." Though it wasn't patented at the time, the Detroit Police Department should be given honorable mention for creating the first pager-like system in 1921. (Source)
